Twelve teams represent Dakota State University Trojans in intercollegiate athletic competition. Women’s teams participate in volleyball, basketball, indoor and outdoor track, cross country, and softball. Men’s teams compete in football, basketball, cross country, baseball, indoor and outdoor track. Dakota State University maintains membership in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC). The athletic program is affiliated nationally with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

The Lake Area Improvement Corporation (LAIC) is a nonprofit economic development organization dedicated to the growth and prosperity of Madison and the communities that reside within Lake County, South Dakota.
